ICE Deportation Officers Arrest 61 Fugitive Aliens in Florida

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of Department of Homeland Security announced on July 20 it arrested 61 fugitive aliens in the past week. Here is the news released by ICE in their website:

Sixty-one fugitive aliens living in various cities throughout Florida were arrested during a one-week period that culminated Friday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers assigned to the Miami Field Office Fugitive Operations Team.

Among the arrested was 34-year-old Glenn Zazim Khan, a national of Trinidad and Tobago convicted of manslaughter with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault. Khan was arrested Friday at his home in Orlando. He was ordered removed by an immigration judge on July 15, 2005. His subsequent appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) was dismissed on Nov. 8, 2005.

Also arrested was Pedro Perez-Barrios, a 36-year-old Guatemalan national who was in hiding in Cocoa, Florida. Perez-Barrios was ordered removed in absentia by an immigration judge on May 20, 1998. He too failed to comply with the order.
“Those who fail to comply with lawful orders of removal should know that we are looking for you,” said Michael Rozos, field office director for the office of detention and removal in Florida. “We are committed to restoring integrity to our nation’s immigration system.”

All of those arrested are in ICE custody at various locations throughout Florida awaiting to be deported from the country.

This enforcement action is part of the second phase of the Secure Border Initiative (SBI), a comprehensive multi-year plan launched by the Department of Homeland Security to secure America’s borders and reduce illegal migration. Under SBI, Homeland Security seeks to gain operational control of both the northern and southern borders, while re-engineering the detention and removal system to ensure that illegal aliens are removed from the country quickly and efficiently. SBI also involves strong interior enforcement efforts, including enhanced worksite enforcement investigations and intensified efforts to track down and remove illegal aliens inside this country.
