H1으로 레이오프당하거나 사직해도 i-94 기간이 남아있으면 그 안에 스폰서구해 서류들어가면 된다는 의견이 많은데, (아마 경험에서 나온 확신이겠지요?) 정작 여기서 유명한 Zhang 변호사 사이트 FAQ는 아니라고 하네요. 일단 회사 그만두면 그 날짜이후엔 어떤 것도 못한다구. 아래 발췌한 글입니다.

A: No. Your H-1B status is tied with your employment. Thus, after your employment was terminated, you were no longer in valid H-1B status, even though your I-94 is still valid until next year.

H1B는 회사를 그만두거나 laid off되거나 하면 그 순간부터 무효입니다. 지금 즉시 출국하는
것이 법에 따른 것이나, 6개월전에 출국하면 재입국에 불이익이 없고, 보통 1-2개월은
H1B transfer할때 별문제없이 승인되는 사람들이 많이있기에 그렇게 말하는 것입니다.

I-94는 의미 없습니다. 1-2개월을 초과해서 체류하지 않는 것이 좋을 듯합니다.
