아이가 최근 시민권을 취득하여 다음 단계로 미국 여권을 신청하였습니다. 한글서류를 처음에는 제가 번역하여 공증해서 보냈는데 답신이 다음과 같이 오더군요.
“The translation you submitted is not acceptable because it was not completed by an authorized translator. Please submit a complete and professional translation of your (서류제목들) from a translation service.”
하여 다음 번에는 제가 아는 분에게 부탁하여 그 분이 번역하였다는 Certificate 를 그 분의 연락처와 함께 보냈습니다. 그런데도 똑같은 답신을 오늘 받았네요.
이제까지 저와 다른 가족의 영주권, 또한 여권신청시에는 아무 문제없었는데요. 위에서 언급한 “authorized translator”가 어떤 사람, 또는 기관을 이야기하는지 아시는 분이 있으면 조언 부탁드립니다. 비용에 대해서도 알려주시면 더욱 감사하겠습니다.

A certified English translation for the US immigration services (USCIS) must be prepared in accordance with the United States regulation, and by a professional translator or translation company. Other organizations, such as WES and various universities and medical schools sometimes have additional requirements, but basically a certified translation is made up of four parts which must be in place in order to be considered a valid certified translation.

The certified English translation must accompany an official company letterhead showing the name and address of the translator/translation company.
The complete word for word translation of the original text formatted as closely as possible to the original text.
A statement signed by the translator or translation company representative attesting that the translator or translation company representative believes the translated text to be an accurate and complete translation of the source document. Sometimes this statement bears the title “Certificate of Accuracy.”
All pages of the translation are stamped and signed, along with the translator’s signature being notarized.
Notarization isn’t required for the USCIS, but more and more of our clients are requesting this service so we’ve made it standard procedure with our certified translations.

그늘집님 답 주시겠지만,

저도 번역사라고 따로 지정되지 않고,

본인이 영어와 한국어에 능통하여 원본과 다름없이 정확하게

번역 했음을 증명하나이다라는 문장과 이름 컨텍넘버면 되는 줄알았는데

이민국에서는

번역사무소의 서신형식에, 원본과 같은 양식에 번역을 하고

그 다음에 상기된 내용의 attestation집어 넣고, 공증도 하기를 바라는게

바로 이민국에서 원하는 번역서입니다.

그러니, 현재 번역사무소로 라이선스 있는 사업체가

자기들이 쓰는 letterhead가 있는 용지에 번역을 해서

제출 하라는 뜻으로 해석이 되고,

보통 한장당 30불이니, 장수마다 서명과 공증 하여서 부르는게

값이겠지만, 저희 회사에서는 본인들이 번역하면 검토하고

그 번역을 집어 넣고, 보내 드립니다.

돈을 많이 세이브 할 수 있지요.

미국여권과에 전화를 해서 알아보니, 대사관이나 영사관에서 확인을 하면 받아준다는군요. 하여 다음 주 중에 시간을 내서 영사관에 가려고 합니다.
