matroid
In 1935, Hassler Whitney published a paper entitled “On the abstract prop- erties of linear dependence”. The same year, Takeo Nakasawa published the first of a series of three papers dealing with similar ideas. Both authors introduced what Whitney called “matroids”. Whereas Whitney became a famous mathemati- cian whose obituary appeared in The New York Times, Nakasawa died in obscurity at the age of 33 and has received only minimal recognition for his contributions

EE 는 어디서 응용이 되나요? 회로도나 셀룰라폰 네트워크? 하긴 위키피디어보면 디스크 컴프레션 알고리듬에도 응용된다고 나오네.

EE에 꼭 그런 분야만 있는건 아니고 수학적인 면을 다루는 분야도 있는데 information theory안에서 network coding이나 secrecy 같은 세부 분야에서 많이 다룹니다
