 L-1 Visa 를 받고 , 현재 본인은 미국에 와있는 상태이며 , 와이프와 아들(4살)은 10월 초에 미국으로 들어올 예정입니다.

즉 , 본인 ( 미국 ) , 와이프 / 아들 ( 한국 )

본인은 8월30일부터 현재 미국에서 일을 하고 있구요.

이번에 첫 paycheck을 받았는데 , Single 로 되어 있고 , number of allowance 도 0 으로 되어있더라구요.

이리저리  찾아본 결과 , 저의 경우에는 9월에 한해서 , 

Married but withhold Single 인것인것 같은데 , number of allowance를 얼마로 해야할지 모르겠네요… 참고로 와이프는 전업주부입니다.

세금관련이 어렵네요…

You can change allowance number any time. You can start with 3, and you can adjust the number after 2 years. You may get the more tax return next year since you started to work from the end of Aug, not a full year income. So you may wait until 2012 to find the best number for you.

답변 감사드립니다. 한가지더 질문을 해도 될까요? 부양가족이 2명 ( 와이프 / 아들 ) 인데 , # of allowance 가 2가 아니라 3이 되는 이유가 무엇인가요? 혹시 제가 # of allowance 의 개념을 잘못 이해하고 있는것은 아닌지 모르겠습니다.

At least, allowance 3 guarantees that you will have some tax return, I guess. In my case, when I had two dependent, I used 3 and got $2~3K as tax return for sure. My advice is to start with 3 and you will adjust it after 2 years.
You can change it any time.
