The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in the monthly financial close process, ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger and the integrity of financial reporting. This position manages the lifecycle of fixed assets, oversees complex intercompany transactions, and maintains rigorous internal controls. It is an ideal role for a detail-oriented professional looking to apply U.S. GAAP or IFRS standards in a dynamic corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Month-End Close & Reconciliations: Perform comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations for various accounts including Fixed Assets, Intangibles and Prepaid Expenses. Conduct root-cause analysis to resolve “unnatural” balances and aging items.
Asset Lifecycle Management: Manage the accounting for Fixed and Intangible assets across multiple entities, including depreciation/amortization runs, disposals, and impairment-related analysis.
Intercompany & Operational Accounting: Execute intercompany invoicing and expense allocations. Support operational entries for trial devices and sub-seller arrangements.
Prepaid Expense Oversight: Maintain and extend future amortization schedules, coordinating with business partners to ensure accurate classification of current and long-term assets.
Compliance & Audit Support: Maintain “audit-ready” documentation and support internal control compliance.Act as a key point of contact for internal and external auditors during walkthroughs and testing related to your areas.
Process Optimization: Actively participate in initiatives to automate accounting workflows and improve the efficiency of the close cycle.
QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field is required.
Experience: 2–3 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in public accounting or a corporate mid-to-large-scale business environment.
Technical Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of U.S. GAAP or IFRS and the month-end close process.
Systems: Proficiency in Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs) and experience with ERP systems (e.g., Workday or NetSuite) is a plus.
Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
Certification: CPA is not required for this role.
The salary range posted below refers only to positions that will be physically based in New York, NY. As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location. Pay ranges for candidates in locations other than New York, NY may differ based on the local market data in that region. The base salary pay range for this position is $55,500 to $74,000.Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata’s non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
