    Summary of Functions
    The Packing Specialist is responsible for the packing/shipment of product to customers. The packing Specialist is responsible for the accuracy of shipments and meeting all documented service requirements per customer specifications. This person ensures shipment schedules are followed, orders are accurate with appropriate labels and that quality control approvals have been cleared for shipments. This individual directs all activities within the Packing Department in coordination with the Planning Specialist and Department Manager. The incumbent manages the work of hourly staffing agency employees.

    Principle Responsibilities
    • Provides daily direction and leadership to the Packing Department team members.
    • Responsible for generating data sets pertaining to packing specs, conditions, and labels.
    • Responsible for calculating staffing level data, packing throughput, and inventory.
    • Makes assessments to managers to gauge daily packing output and take follow-up actions.
    • Makes recommendations for manpower needs including involvement in recruitment and selection process as well as employee evaluations in the Packing Department.
    • Accountable for staffing, training, motivation, and leadership within area of responsibility.
    • Develops a teamwork environment.
    • Ensures that all employees in the Packing Department are properly trained with Packing Supervisor.
    • Ensures that materials packed are verified against pertinent documentation with client company.
    • Establishes and maintains procedures for determining and meeting company and customer packing commitments by handling materials, providing labor, and effective use of time.
    • Recommends and assists in implementing operating procedures and promotes continual improvement within the department and the company.
    • Follows shipping methods for materials using the operations procedures.
    • Resolves emergent issues for expedited deliveries to the customer and/or job site.
    • Monitors the quality, quantity, cost, and efficiency of packing inventories.
    • Interfaces with other departments to resolve problems with timely delivery or disposition of order cancellations.
    • Ensures that daily goals are met and sustained daily/weekly/monthly.
    • Identifies roadblocks to processes and procedures and offers suggestions for improvement.
    • Ensures that all manufactured products and raw materials are effectively managed and approved through quality inspection.
    • Promotes a safe work environment and ensures that all employees in the Packing Department are following safety rules and regulations.

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
    • 1+ year of experience in manufacturing preferred.
    • Bilingual in English & Korean preferred, Spanish is a plus.
    • Experience with shipping or packing in a manufacturing or processing company.
    • Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and prioritize workload.
    • Team player with high energy and a can-do attitude.
    • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
    • Required to have effective communication skills both verbal as well as written.
    • Overtime expected and required on short notice, with flexibility based on plant production schedules.
    • Strong math skills, with capability of understanding and conducting basic arithmetic and statistical operations.
    • Ability to quickly recognize errors and inconsistencies in numerical data (good analysis skills).
    • Experience with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to establish reports.
    • Close attention to detail is essential.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

    Physical Requirements
    Work is considered low physical work in an office and production setting, requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform low physical work indoors with minimum exposure to dust.
    Must be able to:
    • Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.
    • Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to handle objects and reach with hands and arms.
    • Will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers or standing for hours at a time.
    • Some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
    • Demonstrate the ability to hear and have specific vision abilities to adjust focus, in an environment subject to noise, dust, etc.
    • Perform all work safely in a fast-paced work environment.
    • The incumbent is located in a production environment and office area and is faced with constant phone interactions and will be in contact with other staff.

    Starting Wage: $24.04/jour (hourly, non-exempt)
