J1 waiver신청을 했을 경우 grace period 기간동안 job search를 하면서 미국에 stay할 수 없는지요?
저는 현재 J1으로 7월 말까지 internship을 하게 되어있고, J1의 visa stamp가 expire되는 시점은 internship이 끝나는 날짜와 동일하게 7월 말입니다. 그러나 아시다시피 다음과 같은 항목에 의해 expire된 이후 1개월간 stay할 수 있는 것으로 알고 있습니다.
How Long am I Permitted to Stay in the U.S. After my Program has Ended?The initial admission of an exchange visitor, spouse and children may not exceed the period specified on Form DS-2019, plus a period of 30 days for the purpose of travel. The 30-day grace or travel status period is intended to be a period following the end of the exchange visitor’s program and is to be used for domestic travel and/or to prepare for and depart from the U.S., and for no other purpose.
즉 저의 경우 8월 말까지 미국에 stay할 수 있는 것이 맞지 않습니까?그런데 개인적인 계획상으로는 8월 한 달간 미국에서 job search를 하면서 interview를 보고 기회가 되어 offer를 받게되면 H1b를 apply하고자 다음과 같이 waiver를 신청해둔 상태입니다.

==================================================그런데 오늘 현재 인턴쉽을 하고 있는 회사의 immigration staff과 통화하였는데 offer를 J1이 expire되기 전에 받아서 H1을 apply하지 않는 이상은 overstay할 수 없다는 것입니다. J1으로 overstay하는 경우는 오로지 travel이나 moving이어야 하므로 H1b apply 등의 목적으로는 stay할 수 없다고 했습니다.
제가 잘못 이해하였는지는 모르겠지만, 이런 상황이 정말인지 궁금합니다.유사경험이 있으신 분들의 조언을 부탁드립니다.
