1970년에 발표한 John Lennon의 ‘God’에 대한 reply형식으로 1988년에 U2가 Rattle and Hum 앨범을 통해 God Part II를 발표합니다. 이 노래의 부제도 For John Lennon입니다. 이 앨범에서 뿐만아니라 그 이전과 그 이후에 release에서도 계속해서 사랑, 평화, 인권, 박애등을 강조하는 노래들을 많이 발표했는데 lead vocal인 Bono는 노래뿐만이 아닌 그 뜻에맞는 계속된 실천적인 활동으로 Nobel peace prize nominee가 되기도 했었죠.
