Hi,
I am on H-1B and my current visa needs extension before January next year.
Becuase i have been on H-1B for alomost 4.5 years at this point, my employeer and I we are discussion to extend the visa and file for Green card for category 2.
however most of the cost involved should be paid out of my pocket, and becuase my boss know my situation, i’ve realized she is giving me a lot more work that one person can handle. maybe this can be coincidence but all this situation makes me uncomfortable.

In the meantime, i have been with my boyfriend for 5 years, we met at graduate school and been together since then. We cared about each other and recach the situation where we can understand each other better than anyone else. But we did not really think about getting married. frankly each one of us does not have any room to think about getting married due to illness involved in family memebers(his and mine also)

My boyfriend asked me to get married instead of goig through all this processes and being kind of overworked by my employeer.

From my heart, i know i wlll be with him in the future, howver it is kind of sudden. so i don’t know what to do.

If i get married, (my boyfriend has citizenship), how soon i can get green card or to be more precise, what my status will be in 6 months?  what kinds of process i should take?

I am sorry to hear the convoluted situation you are in, and this is not the advices or answers to your posting anywhere. I guessed you may want to sit down and relax to think and get the answers yourself first for following questions.

1. why did you decide to stay in States?
2. what is(was) your dream job? are you in a job/workplace you like?
3. do you love your boyfriend and want him your spouse?
4. are you pushing out marriage or wedding, if you are Yes on both questions on 3?
5. are you aware some of fees mandatory to employer to file/process the employment based immigration and the entire process of EB-2?
6. can you start non biased discussions with employer and your boyfriend based on the facts and what are your thoughts?
