이 곳에서 여러 번 이야기 되었던 것입니다만, H1B는 취업비자이며 고용주 (회사)가 이민국에 “신청”하여 받는 것입니다. 윗분이 말씀하셨듯 혼자 할 수 있는 것이 아닙니다.

혹시 고용주가 비자를 신청하되 원글님께 서류작업 등을 알아서 해오라고 했다는 말씀이신지.

It is possible as one of my friends did it by himself. His sponsor was our university. However it is time consuming and you will bump into cumbersome stuff, which is why most of the people hire a lawyer. It would cost around $4000 ~ 5000 including the petition fees.

you can’t do alone “without a sponsor”

as one of my friends did it by himself. His sponsor was our university –> he had a sponsor and the sponsor paid for a couple of things.

Based on this part “변호사비도 만만치않아서” it was assumed that s/he wanted to try to do alone without a sponsor. If s/he had a sponsor, why was s/he worried about attorney cost? Also if s/he were single, s/he would not have to worry about any cost.
