Klaatu가 데뷔했을때 그들은 신비주의 그 자체였다. 그들에 대한 아무 자료도 없었기에 많은 사람들 사이에서 Beatles와 비슷한 멜로디로 이루어진 그들의 음악을 가지고 이 음반은 비틀즈 멤버들이 몰래 모여 만들어 낸것일 가능성이 높다라고 말할정도 였으니 이 사실은 그 당시 그들의 음악이 아무리 Beatles풍이라고 할지라도 Klaatu의 음악적 수준이 보통이상임을 반증하는 것이기도 하다.

첫 앨범은 1976년 ‘3:47 E.S.T’라는 이름으로 Canada에서 발매되었으나 미국에서는 ‘Klaatu’라는 이름으로 발매되었다. 이 앨범에 수록된 곡들은 모두 흠잡을데 없이 세련된 progressive rock의 진면목을 보여주는 곡들인데 Sub-rosa subway는 뉴욕 지하철 시스템을 발명한 Alfred Beach의 이야기를 다룬 곡이다. 그 당시에는 전기가 보편화 되기전의 시대였기 때문에 공기를 이용한 지하철을 발명했다는데, 가사 속에있는 “wind-machine”은 그러한 사연을 담고있다.

고교 시절 전영혁의 1시의 데이트를 통해 알게 되었는데 아직도 빽판(?)이라고 불리우던 해적판이 집에 있습니다.

저도 전영혁의 음악세계 애청자 였었는데 유난히도 pat metheny 의 연주곡을 자주 틀어주셨던 기억이 나네요. 자장가가 따로 필요없던;;;;

으…. 빽판!! 오랫만에 불러보네요…
