Post-completion OPT “신청” 하려면 이미 defense를 끝낸상태여야 하나요 ?

저는 한달반쯤 후에 defense를 하려고 하고 있습니다 (약 11월초에 디펜스).

OPT 시작날짜는 12월 중순 공식 졸업 날짜 (12월 17일) 이 후에 하려고 하고 있구요.

지금 9월 중순이니 OPT를 신청할 계획입니다.

지금 Post-Completion OPT를 신청하려고 하고 있는데요.

어디서 보니 defense를 이미 끝낸 상태여야 신청을 할수 있다는 말을 들은것 같은데요..

이게 사실인가요 ?

논문 이외에 모든 것을 다 끝낸 상태라면 (all but dissertation), 포스트 컴플리션 OPT 신청할 수 있습니다. 제가 그렇게 했습니다. 그리고, 전 디펜스를 내년 봄쯤이나 할수 있으려나…

Course Work를 모두 마치고 졸업 논문만 남겨둔 경우에는
졸업 전에도 (좀더 정확히는, 학업 종료 이전에도) Post-Completion OPT를 시작할 수 있습니다.

either pre-completion OPT or post-completion OPT?

Yes, a student who only has the thesis or equivalent remaining may either
apply for pre-completion OPT or post-completion OPT while completing
the thesis/dissertation.
