그간 이 게시판으로부터 도움을 많이 받고 최근에 미국의 주립대에서 오퍼를 받았습니다. 오늘 그 오퍼 내용을 이메일로 우선 받아 보았는데 base appointment 기간이 9개월이네요.
원래 이렇게 계약을 하면서 매년 갱신을 하는게 일반적인지..
그렇다면 비자 (현 H-1B소유)는 매년 갱신을 하는것인지 궁금합니다.

This appointment is for a continuing tenure track position, subject to nonretention with notice as provided in the Agreement. 계약은 매년 갱신이고, H-1 비자는 3년기간으로 받는게 일반적입니다. 물론 3년이 가기전에 영주권 받으셔야겠지요.

If you don’t mind, could you let the readers know the salary?
I’m also preparing for an academic faculty position but the biggest concern is the weak financial factors as opposed to industry jobs.

원래 교직은 9개월이구요…3개월 여름은 리서치나 여름학기 가르치는걸로 때우지요. 네고할때 첫 1-2년은 여름 지원해달라…일단 해보세요..3개월은 안되도…1-2개월이라도 받을 수 있게될겁니다.
6년 테뉴어 같은데…매년 평가 하지만..3년차때 중간평가 빡세게 합니다 자를 수도 있지요…그리고 6년뒤에 테뉴어 심사들어가게 됩니다.

미국은 tenure track은 물론, tenured professor도 /매년/ 재계약합니다.
황당해야할 일이 전혀 아니죠.

그리고 뽀글이님 말씀은, 심사는 매년 하는 것이지만,
3년째 특히 빡세게 해서, 그 때 짜른다는 게 아니라,
3년차때 심사 안좋으면, tenure 심사할 때 까지 기다리지 말고,
알아서 미리 다른 자리 알아보라는 이야기입니다.

황당님, 3년 review때 짜른다고 통보해주고 1년간만 더 있게 해준후 4년째에 재계약 안했던 건 본적 있습니다. 중부에 있는 괜찮은 주립대에서의 얘기입니다.
