– No. Unless you want to be a quant.
– Lloyd Blankfein is a history major. IBD doesn’t care what you major in – they just want to see two things. 1, are you smart? 2, can you grind through tough hours in banking? That’s it.
– First off, its very difficult to get to HFs and PEs w/o IB experience. Refer back to 2 for what qualities they’re looking for in candidates. Getting into an IB is much easier in the so-called “target schools” because of OCR, but it’s still doable even if you’re not a target: just gotta get good grades, have relevant internships, and network. But since you’re out of school already, you should perhaps consider MFin – or find out if your parents can pull some strings.
– As of now, no. Maybe in the distant future they’ll have smaller analyst classes, but that’s really not something you should be concerned about. As for the “future” of IB, remember that its a people business – as you move up in a bank, its less about doing models, and more about having good relationships with clients and sourcing deals. So no, computers will not replace bankers.
P.S.
From your questions I’m getting the impression that you don’t really have a good idea of what banking is. Before you even consider banking, I suggest you get some research done on your own.
