If you did not go through what the original poster is going through, it seems natural that your comments may be relevant or irrelevant. I was just trying to supplement your comment to help the original poster in understanding my original comment. I wrote my comment because what the original poster is experiencing exactly matches my experience. Maybe then I could have handled it differently, but your comments sounded like you did not experience the academic competition. If you did not graduate from a ranked American college, you may not understand the concept of academic competition, which is nothing wrong on your side. We all have different backgrounds, even as Koreans. However, if you start giving advice based on an assumption that you are right in every way, that is a usual sign that you are not educated enough, and that can be toxic.
