Home Forums Job & Work Life 미국에서 연구소 잡은 어떤가요 ? 미국에서 연구소 잡은 어떤가요 ? Name * Password * Email "허허님은…..어느분야에 있습니까?" 소속은 공대 이고 현재 패컬티 입니다. 메드 스쿨은 흠님이 강조한것처럼 다른가 싶어서 구글링 해봤습니다. (매드는 특수할 수도 있고 저 역시 관련없는 분야이기에) https://medschool.duke.edu/about-us/faculty-resources/faculty-appointments-promotion-tenure/basic-science-apt-faculty/tenured Duke 대학 메드스쿨의 테뉴어를 받기위한 조건입니다. 4번 항목을 보시면 "Significant contributions to teaching." 이라고 나와있네요. 5번의 항목은 "Service to the department and university, as well as participation in interdisciplinary collaborations between departments and/or schools" 입니다. 1번 부터 5번항목까지 제가 속해있는 공대와 거의 일치하는 군요. https://www.umassmed.edu/ofa/governance-policies/academic-personnel-policy/Article4/#APP4.03 UMASS 메드입니다. Section 4.7 Tenure Dossier를 보시면 "Evidence of effectiveness in educational activities, such as teaching evaluations" 라고 나와있네요. 테뉴어 어세스먼트를 위해 티칭 이벨류에이션은 반드시 포함됩니다...역시 제가 있는 공대도 마찬가지이구요. https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/fao/docs/admin-general/Information-Guide-for-APT.pdf Northwestern 메드의 테뉴어 가이드라인 입니다. 페이지 6 를 보시면 "Faculty without clinical or substantial teaching responsibilities in the laboratory, who spend most of their time in research activities, will be appointed to the Research track. Faculty in this track typically support research efforts of investigators on the Investigator and Clinician-Educator tracks or play a leadership role in the operations of core facilities. Faculty in this track will be titled as Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, or Research Professor. This is a non-tenure track" 티칭을 안하는 패컬티의 타이틀은 "리서치" 프로페서이며 논테뉴어 트랙이라고 명시가 되있네요. https://www.stfm.org/FamilyMedicine/Vol47Issue1/Walling43 패밀리 메드 소사이어티에 테뉴어에 대해 설명이 나와있군요 "Tenure may be the best choice of academic track for individuals who can meet the requirements in the broad range of academic activities expected (generally in teaching, scholarship, and service with possibly added areas)." 흠...공대와 요구조건이 별차이 없군요. 티칭, 리서치 앤 서비스. 흠님이 메드스쿨에 잘 아신다고 하셨고 전 공대교수라 우물안 개구리이니 메드스쿨 테뉴어 트랙 패컬티는 티칭이 제로라는 문서를 보여주시면 감사하겠습니다. "그리고 연구소에서 내가 위에 PI를 staff scientist 라고 안부른다고 썼을텐데……굳이 또 staff scientist 라고 쓰는 고집은 뭔가? 내가 있던 연구소에서는 PI급은 직급도 다르고 모두 교수로 부릅니다. " 교수라는 명칭이 내부적으로 편하게 부르기 위한 타이틀인가요 아니면 official한 타이틀 인가요? 다시말해, employment contract에포지션 타이틀이 "professor"란 말씀이신가요? "내가 위에서 그 연구소에서 다른 학교로 가는것을 언급을 했는데, 이게 왜 가능하냐면 연구소에서 막대한 돈과 자제를 가지고 지원합니다. 그럼 학교를 골라갑니다. 내가 있던 그 연구소에서 내가 포닥으로 있던 기간동안 한 5명정도 학교교수로 갔는데, 하버드 2명, 버클리1명, UCLA 1명, 시카고 1명 정교수로 갔습니다. 돈이면 다 되는게 현 아카데미입니다." 왜 자꾸 논제와는 어긋난 말씀을 하시는지요. 연구소에서 학교로 오고 학교에서 연구소가는게 희귀한 일 아닙니다. 리서치에 큰 뜻이 있으면 당연히 연구환경 좋은 내셔널랩이 큰 매력을 가지고 있습니다. 반대로 티칭을 좋아하고 학교문화를 좋아하면 연구소에서 학교로도 많이 옵니다...위에 쿼트된 내용이 님이 꾸준히 주장하시는 "내셔널 랩 PI도 프로페서이다" 라는거에 어떠한 도움을 주는지 연관이 안됩니다. 공대 역시도 당연히 리서치 펀드를 끌어오는게 테뉴어를 받기위해서 가장 중요한 요소입니다. 하지만 티칭에서 미니멈 요구조건을 못채우면 아무리 많은 펀드를 끌어와도 테뉴어는....글쎄요?
