Here’s what happened. Trump ascended from the Republican primary against all odds. Why? because he trashed immigrants and foreigners. Building a wall and calling for mass deportation got him the most votes because voters (=haters) thought ‘establishment’ were too cozy with immigrants.
This is what politicians and legislatures (that you deride so much) had to deal with about immigration – THE WHITE MAJORITY frickin HATES IMMIGRANTS. In fact, their hate is so strong they even went on to elect a charlatan who is a sexual offender, draft dodger, serial bankrupter, confirmed racist, and tax evader.
