Medical studies are complex because there are many uncontrolled variables to consider in decision making. Pure science and engineering knowledge is built up from experiments in controlled environments. Not so with medical knowledge. So it’s right to say that you need to memorize a lot as a beginner because it’s impossible to understand the complexity but as you advance, you need to start to have some understanding to be able to do problem solving in various clinical encounters.
