Your idea is old-fashioned and is not correct for modern vehicles. Recently, many auto manufactures specified to use 0w20 or 5w20 for their engines. The tolerances between engine parts are much less than before, and that is the reason why the manufacturers recommend to use low viscosity engine oils.
