F1 신분중 임신하면 휴학이 가능한가요?

    안녕하세요 현재 F1 신분으로 어학원에 다니고 있습니다.

    그런데 최근 임신을 하게 되어서 휴학을 하고 싶은데, 제가 여기저기 알아본 바로는 건강상의 이유로 휴학을 하게 되면 체류신분이 인정된다고 들었습니다.

     

    솔직히 등록금을 그냥 내더라도 너무 힘들어서 하루빨리 휴학을 하고 싶은데 체류신분때문에 걱정이 많습니다.

     

    더군다나 제가 큰 대학교를 다닌다면 믿음이라도 가는데, 소규모 어학원이다 보니 제가 휴학을 하면 이민국에 제대로 보고나 해줄지 걱정이 되네요.

     

    제가 궁금한것은 

     

    1. 휴학이 가능한지?

    2. 가능하다면 얼마나 오래동안 가능한지? 

    3. 어학원에서 이민국에 건강상의 이유로 휴학을 했다는 보고를 제대로 해줬는지 어떻게 확인 가능한지?

     

    사실 제일 궁금한건 3번인데요. 괜히 어학원 믿고 있다가 불체된 경우를 몇명 봐서요.

      정확한 것을 잘 모르겠지만.. USC의 OIS에 명시되어 있는 것을 복사합니다.
      정확하게 임신한 것이 Medical LOA에 해당되는지를 알아보셔야 할 것 같네요.
      제대로 된 것은 어학원하고 잘 얘기해보셔야 겠네요..

      Medical LOA

      F-1/J-1 students are eligible to take an LOA due to medical reasons. Students have the option to return to their home country or remain in the U.S. to receive medical treatment.

      Students who wish to remain in the U.S. must obtain a doctor’s letter recommending the LOA for medical reasons. Students who remain in the U.S. without obtaining advance approval for medical LOA from OIS will be considered out of status.
      Requirements and Limitations of Medical LOA:

      Must have a letter from a licensed medical doctor, doctor of osteopathy, or licensed clinical psychologist recommending leave for a specific semester
      Must have PRIOR approval from OIS and academic department before withdrawing from courses
      No more than 12 months total leave are allowed per degree level

      Students considering an LOA due to medical reasons must meet with an OIS counselor.

      F-1학생이 학업이 불가능할 정도로 건강이 악화되었다면 본국으로 돌아가서 치료를 받고 다시 돌아오는 것이 원칙입니다. 이때 건강악화 또는 위험으로 장기간 여행이 불가능한 경우에 미국내 치료를 인정해 주게 됩니다. 원글님과 같이 단순 임신으로 학생신분이 유지되지는 않을 것 입니다. 의사들도 단순임신에 학업이 불가능하고 여행도 안된다는 진단서를 발급해주지 않을 가능성이 크고요.

      우선 의사에게 이런 진단서가 가능한지 확인하십시오.

      If you can get an excuse letter from your OB/GYN doc, you can be excused from the class. From my wife’s case, it was not difficult to get a letter (they usually don’t care or don’t know of an immigration matter). However, you have to come back to that class to complete the course/class you initially intended to, if you plan or are in process to apply for GC.
