Advantages of Ivy league schools: 1. Social status – (Not as much as in Korea. But even in US, if you are an Ivy league graduate, people will think that you’re smart and intelligent. ) 2. It’s very helpful in certain careers such as top academic positions where academic pedigree rules supreme, top management positions and financial industry. 3. It’ll open doors for a good first job.
However, there are other ways to gain social status in the US. For example, if you’re a doctor, people will assume many positive things about you due to positive stereotypes. And there are many Ivy league graduates whose career didn’t blossom. I saw many Korean students who struggled in prestigious US schools and ended up having just mediocre career. So if your kids are very smart and driven, if they can take full advantages of opportunities offered by top schools, going there will boost their career and their lives beyond expectations. If your kids aren’t so talented, Ivy leagues schools will be waste even if they just get in with unnatural efforts of parents.
