The term broadband pertains to the bandwidth of data connections. It is not a name of a product or group of products, although marketing people will use it that way. Whether it’s a consumer broadband product or a dedicated data line, the resources are shared. They are different in how the resources are shared (or scheduled) and how the lines are maintained. Due to these differences, they perform differently when it comes to bandwidth guarantee and availability. For higher availability and guaranteed bandwidth, telcos can command significantly higher prices.
