미국 의회에서 한반도 평화 통일을 촉구하는 결의를 통과 시켰답니다.
Washington D.C.–Today, the House of Representatives passed by
unanimous consent, H.Con.Res.41, bipartisan resolution “Encouraging
peace and reunification on the Korean Peninsula.” Congressman Charles B.
Rangel (D-NY), a combat veteran in the Korean War and honorary chair of
the Congressional Caucus on Korea, introduced the legislation in the
House while Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), member of the Foreign Relations
and Armed Services Committees, laid the foundation for its passage in
the Senate, where the resolution is headed to next.“The bloodshed that occurred in Korea between World War II and the
Vietnam War is often known as the Forgotten War,” Rangel said. “The
passage of this bill will show my comrades from the Korean War that the
U.S. Congress joins the President in saluting them and their legacy.”This past Saturday on July 27th, President Barack Obama recognized
Rangel’s service in the Korean War, as well as those of the nation’s 1.8
million Korean War veterans, at a ceremony marking the 60th anniversary
of the Korean War Armistice. The President also noted that six decades after the ceasefire
agreement, 28,500 members of the United States Armed Forces still remain
stationed near the Demilitarized Zone, the most heavily armed border in
the world. This resolution reaffirms the enduring alliance with the
Republic of Korea and U.S. commitment to safeguard peace and stability
in the region.“I am pleased the House has swiftly passed this resolution and
applaud Congressman Rangel for his steadfast commitment to this effort. I
look forward to urging passage in the Senate to promote peace and
reunification on the Korean Peninsula,” said Kaine.Joining Rangel as original co-sponsors in the House are Reps. John
Conyers, Jr. (D-MI), Sam Johnson (R-TX), and Howard Coble (R-NC), who
